The 2024 contest features five brand-new categories: Behavior, Big Animals, Conservation, Freshwater and Wrecks. You may enter up to five images in each category below.

CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS
BEHAVIOR
Capture the moments that bring the underwater world to life. Unique animal behaviors—hunting, mating, playing or seemingly goofing off for the camera—are a favorite subject of photographers because they invite the audience to connect with marine life on a deeper level. Share the extraordinary antics that make these animals so special.
FRESHWATER
This is your chance to showcase the often overlooked but no less fascinating environments of lakes, rivers, streams, freshwater caves and cenotes. Give us your best shot of running salmon, tranquil manatees or hauntingly still underwater landscapes. Entries in overhead environments should display proper trim and necessary safety equipment.
WRECKS
Do you have a lust for rust? Highlight the allure of underwater wrecks, both inside and out. Share captivating images of historical sunken vessels and thriving artificial reefs. Include divers for context or shine the spotlight on the wreck (or one of its inhabitants). Entries in overhead environments should display proper trim and necessary safety equipment.
BIG ANIMALS
Celebrate the giants of the deep with awe-inspiring images of great whites, pods of dolphins, narwhals, giant Pacific octopuses and more. Showcase the diversity and importance of these ocean giants in their natural habitats.
CONSERVATION
Spark change with powerful images of ocean heroes in action or marine life facing challenges such as climate change or pollution. Capture a resilient reef, scientists and everyday divers working to preserve wildlife or a unique take on marine debris and use the gift of storytelling through underwater photography to inspire others to join in the efforts of ocean conservation.
