Each year when air and water temperatures throughout the state of Florida get cold, manatees seek warmth by congregating in the state’s 72-degree-yearround springs.

The springs, of course, are where the mermaids live too — specifically Weeki Wachee Springs State Park near Spring Hill, Florida.

Says videographer Becky Kagan Schott: "While filming the beautiful mermaids practicing for a show, we were photo bombed by seven very active manatees that worked their way up into the springs! It was really a special moment seeing them with the mermaids.”

Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is one of Florida's oldest and most beloved attractions. The park, founded in 1947, is famous for its glass-walled subterranean theater, where guests can watch mermaids performing live underwater. Occasionally, aquatic life like turtles and otters make guest appearances during shows, but on this day, the mermaids were lucky enough to be in the water with Florida's iconic West Indian manatees.
