10 Stunning Jellyfish From Our Underwater Photo Contest
Judging the Through Your Lens photo contest is one of our favorite parts of the year at Scuba Diving — but it’s also one of the most challenging. For the 2017 contest, we sifted through more than 2,500 awesome entries to find the best of the best in underwater photography. We wanted to highlight some of our favorite images that didn’t make the winner’s circle, but that blew us away nonetheless. Jellyfish are exciting to see on any dive. Here are our favorite jellies from the 2017 contest.

Frilly-mouthed jellyfish (Chrysaora sp.) are normally found in deep waters off Cape Town, South Africa. During the summer months, the prevailing southwestern wind can blow at gale force for days on end. This causes a strong upwelling during which many pelagic species get swept inshore. If you are quick and lucky enough, you can find some of these jellyfish intact before any predators get to them.
