I’m Roger Roy, the ScubaLab director. We tested the Beuchat Maxlux S mask. With outstanding performance and comfort at an unbeatable price, it was our Best Buy for single-lens masks.

We tested it in the field at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in Central Florida. We evaluated it for the ease and security of making strap adjustments and the overall comfort of the mask in the water. We also rated it for its field of view, how effectively its seal kept our faces dry and how easy it was to clear and equalize.

This mask’s baby-soft hypoallergenic skirt tied for the top score for comfort and is available in a rainbow of colors. The supple seal of this low-volume mask also proved to be very effective at keeping water out and earned the highest score for dryness in its category. The latches on the mask strap were a little difficult to work — especially for divers wearing gloves — and the horizontal field of view felt a bit narrow, but that didn’t stop test divers from choosing it as one of their favorites.
