I’m Roger Roy, the ScubaLab director. We tested the Akona Breeze mask. With very good performance and comfort at a modest price, it was our Best Buy for dual-lens masks.
We tested it in the field at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in Central Florida. We evaluated it for the ease and security of making strap adjustments and the overall comfort of the mask in the water. We also rated it for its field of view, how effectively its seal kept our faces dry and how easy it was to clear and equalize.
The beefy full frame on the Breeze gives it a somewhat boxy appearance and slightly limits the horizontal field of view. But the streamlined shape of the skirt keeps the mask’s internal volume surprisingly small, making it easy to clear and equalize. The buckles swivel up and down, though not side to side, and are basic but secure and easy to operate, earning a very good for adjustability. Despite being the least expensive mask in our test, the Breeze was rated very good overall by test divers and provided what one diver described as “solid performance and comfort.” The Akona Breeze was our Best Buy for dual-lens masks.
