Saba
Saba's shallow reef and open-ocean pinnacles are protected by a marine park. Most sites are along Saba's lee, and none is more than a 15-minute boat ride from the marina. The island's moored dive sites range from pristine offshore pinnacles to near-shore coral ridges, all encrusted with corals, sponges and sea fans and populated by hawksbill turtles, stingrays and bright tropicals. Standout dives include Diamond Rock, Eye of the Needle and Tent Wall.
You can dive Saba from land-based operations. Dive shops aren't smack-dab on the beach — morning hotel pick-ups and afternoon drop-offs are necessary.
Weather: Daytime temps average 75F to 90F, with cooler temps at higher altitudes. Expect some rain during summer months.
Average Water Temp: 84F in summer; 77F in winter.
Average Visibility: Peaks at 80 to 150 feet in winter, Saba's cooler, drier season. Water clarity can fall to between 60 and 100 feet in summer.
Travel Savvy: A valid passport is required. Not for people who want beaches, casinos or nightlife ... A nominal per-dive marine park fee is factored into dive packages.
