Video: Great White Takes a Bite From Discovery Channel SharkCam
While we're staunch supporters of shark conservation and awareness, we can't lie...we'd rather not find ourselves between the jaws of a great white shark. Luckily, advances in technology allow us to experience the awesome power of these apex predators completely unscathed. That's where the REMUS-100 comes in.
Sponsored by Discovery Channel, the torpedo-shaped robot captured amazing footage of a great white shark displaying what appears to be predatory behavior. REMUS-100 was created by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and is equipped with a navigation system, acoustic sensors, GPS, WiFi, temperature probes and 6 GoPro video cameras, according to Discovery News.
The robots were deployed off of the coast of Cape Cod and Guadalupe Island, and this footage was shot at the latter location. So sit back, relax and be thankful that you're not the REMUS-100.
