Test Stats
Breathing-Simulator Performance | Excellent |
Real-World Performance | Very Good |
This third-generation Titan’s first stage uses a unique forged body covered with an impact-resistant outer skin. The design uses less brass, allowing the first stage to be more compact and lighter. The second stage is made of a new high-strength reinforced polycarbonate material and offers lefthand or righthand hose configuration — the venturi knob assembly switches sides too. A grid built into the exhaust tee breaks down exhaust bubbles for less noise — an appreciable difference that test divers commented on during in-water tests. Side openings on the front cover prevent free-flow when swimming into currents.
Performance:
The Titan’s the only reg in the Under $500 category to earn excellent work of breathing scores in every RMV/depth test level. It’s also a great breather in the water and stays dry as a bone. The second stage is of moderate size, and is light and secure in the mouth with its ComfoBite mouthpiece. It offers a great purge — the cover is large, easy to depress and clears water quickly. Bonus: The Titan comes with a swivel-hose clip, so you can keep the second stage from dangling when it’s not being used.
Bottom Line:
The new Titan shows you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a really great reg. Top breathing performance at a really good price makes it a Best Buy in our book.
