The Mach II Turbo is unique, to say the least. This 100 percent natural neoprene rubber fin features a horizontal split in its blade that creates a “flapper” effect when you kick. Although the fin is already very flexible, you can increase the flexibility of the inner-blade portion by removing up to three pairs of Power Tabs. But think before you act because once cut there’s no going back. The soft rubber makes for a comfortable foot pocket, and a super-smooth buckle combined with a nice strap equals easy donning and doffing. At close to 3 1/2 pounds each, the Mach II Turbo weighed in as the heaviest fin in this year’s group.

Performance

The Mach II Turbo fared much better in this year’s shootout than when we first looked at it six years ago. Compared to this year’s crop of fins, test divers found it to be a pretty smooth kicker, maneuverable and able to crank out some decent acceleration. While we wouldn’t call it a muscle fin, it does deliver kicking power without taxing the legs or ankles. The fin racked up good scores on the frog kick and did even better with flutter and dolphin kicks. Testers felt it offered one of the softest, most comfortable foot pockets around, plus the buckles allowed for effortless strap adjustment.

Bottom Line

The Mach II Turbo has been around for a while, but it’s new to the Scubamax product line. It’s a bit pricey but did earn a spot on our test divers’ “Top 5 Favorites” list, so its overall kicking performance and super-soft fin pocket may make it worth the outlay.
