Non Profit "CARIBwhale Inc" founded in Dominica

An association of whale watching operators has been formed and registered in the Eastern Caribbean. "CARIBwhale Inc" was registered in Dominica on 22nd February 2007 as a non profit organization. It is made up if members/ whale watching operators from: Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and Grenada.

The Directors are:

  • Andrew Armour - Anchorage Whale Watch & Dive Center, Dominica - President

  • Paul Hackshaw - Hackshaws Boat Charters, St. Lucia - Vice President

  • Kim Bendall - Victoria Marine, Samana Dominican Republic - Treasurer

  • Kim Halbich - Fantasea Tours, St. Vincent - Secretary

  • Derek Perryman - Dive Dominica, Dominica - Public Relations Officer
    The goals of CARIBwhale are to foster an environment that protects cetaceans and their habitat, promote responsible whale watching, support non-invasive scientific research, conservation, education, and advocacy. There is a need to show the economic and social value of whales and dolphins alive for whale watching; how this translates to heads in beds, jobs, business potential, community participation and development. The added value of this attraction to a destination, thereby improving the tourism product.

CARIBwhale has been registered.
A logo completion has been started in CARICOM countries for it's logo.
There will be a board meeting in St. Lucia in April 2007.
A co-coordinator will be hired and employed.
A "Whale & Dolphin Tour Guide" training program will be run in May 2007.

This has been strongly supported and endorsed by the International Fund For Animal Welfare.
