1. XS Scuba LT360
The novel magnetic dimmer switch is totally intuitive on this easy-to-use light. Slide it forward for on, and the more you slide it, the brighter it gets. Divers really liked its beam quality and light output. $170; xsscuba.com

2. Tovatec Fusion 530
A powerful beam and sliding zoom head were the two most popular features divers cited when trying out the Fusion 530. You’ll also like its textured, rubbery coating (over an aluminum body) and the rechargeable Li-ion battery. $114.95; tovatec.com

3. Light & Motion GoBe 500 Search
The small GoBe 500 delivers a penetrating 8-degree spot beam, which our divers loved when they tried it. At its lowest, 70-lumen power level — it has four — this powerhouse is rated to burn 36 hours. Rubbery pads offer divers a comfortable grip. $200; lightandmotion.com

"The Sea Dragon Mini 650 has refined the essential elements divers like in a light, but its 15-degree spot beam is a real standout."

4. SeaLife Sea Dragon Mini 650
Underwater photographers are familiar with SeaLife cameras, but the company’s Mini 650 got high praise among our team when we tried it out. We especially liked its one-handed operation, rugged construction, comfortable grip, and lighted switch that changes color to indicate battery level. A 120-degree flood version is also available. $159; sealife-cameras.com
