ScubaLab: Dive Accessories - Have Fun

Fourth Element Ozone Jacket

The Ozone is a high-tech jacket designed to be the outer layer of a drysuit undergarment, but it also doubles as a cozy after-dive coat. Actually, everything about this jacket is dual-purpose. Windproof and waterproof, gill vents on the left shoulder and both wrists block buffeting wind and spray on the surface, yet allow air to escape and vent freely while at depth. Other vents, along with mesh-line pockets, allow air to travel through the garment regardless of your orientation in the water. A parachute-style crotch strap keeps the jacket from riding up while diving, while quick-release buckles let you remove it for post-dive comfort. Fold the collar down to fit under neck seals, fold it up for wind blocking. No doubt about it, the Ozone has a split personality. But either way, it’s a winning warmer. Price: $179 www.fourthelement.com

BARE Dive Kayak

Find your own secret spot far from the crowd with the 11-foot, 4-inch kayak that is more than three feet wide and weight 40 pounds. Two separate air chambers provide the inflation for a maximum weight capacity of 425 pounds. The top desk is 420-denier nylon in dive-flag red with a diagonal white stripe for better visibility. Velcro straps secure the paddle, and D-rings act ass attachment points to secure gear. Three fins in back and a direction strake up front give the kayak good tracking ability and maneuverability. A rear tank cradle centers the tank and offers plenty of room to mount a fully assembled system - just make sure to run the web hold-down around and through the arm openings for the BC for added security. When you return from your dive just deflate the kayak, roll it up and pack it in its carry bag. $500 (paddle and pump sold separately) www.barescubadiving.com

H2O Audio iDive 300 Deep Dive WP Case & Speakers

Whatever your music tastes, you can have it playing through your hood with the iDive 300 for iPods or iPhones. The housing is a bit bulky and the sound quality is about average, but the technology is amazing. A docking plug converts the iTouch controls to push buttons outside the case. The system is intuitive, easy to use and depth rated to 300 feet. On a long deco stop, you can also view video or photos on your iPhone. Price: $350 www.h2oaudio.com

HeatLab Surf-Fur

The Surf-Fur is a water- and windproof fleece jacket that keeps you warm before the dive, provides privacy for changing in and out of your wetsuit, and heats you up after you’ve raised anchor and are heading home. The parka is reversible, with a soft hood on both sides. Deep pockets are great for warmth, and internal openings offer access for modest clothes changing. Put it on between dives right over your wetsuit for wind-blocking warmth, and after the dive just reverse it to put the dry side next to your skin. The length is long and the hood deep, offering excellent coverage. Available in adult and children’s sizes. Price: $119 Adult; $109 Child www.heatlabinc.com

BALL Engineer Hydrocarbon Trieste Chronograph

The Limited Edition Engineer Hydrocarbon Trieste dive watch was designed as a salute to the ocean explorers who descended 36,000 feet to the bottom of the Marianas Trench in the Bathyscaph Trieste. Only 1,000 of these classy watches have been made. Not just another pretty timepiece, the Trieste’s titanium and stainless-steel case is shock resistant to 7,500 Gs and depth rated to 1,980 feet (the chronograph functions operate to this depth, unlike most other dive watches). At that depth it’s dark, so the watch has 50 micro gas tubes on its hands and dial for night reading. It comes with a special titanium and stainless bracelet as well as a rubber strap. You also get a scale model of the Trieste submersible as part of the limited-edition package. Price: $3,599 www.ballwatch.com
