What to Look for in a BC
Lift Capacity
A BC needs to fit your diving style as well as your body. Ultralight BCs are great for travel to warm waters, but for cold-water diving with thick wetsuits or drysuits, make sure your BC has adequate buoyant lift and weight capacity.
Integrated Weights
Though they're all designed to do the same thing, integrated-weight systems come in many different styles and methods of operation. It should be easy for you to load, secure once locked into place, not easy to accidentally release, and simple to ditch quickly.
The Best Fit
Along with the proper size, look for a harness with enough range of adjustment in the straps, and buckles and pads that you’re able to really fine-tune the fit to your own body. Even minor misfit issues in the store will only get worse once you’re in the water. Lots of adjust- ability also means the BC will fit you properly whether you’re in a swimsuit or a thick wetsuit.
