Explorer Ventures announces continued efforts toward company wide environmental initiatives
In March 2007, Explorer Ventures announced that, as part of their 20th Anniversary celebration, the company was beginning a far-reaching initiative designed to minimize the company's impact on the environment. Explorer Ventures continues to be dedicated to being environmentally responsible, making every realistic effort to minimize the impact of their operations on the environment which their guests enjoy daily. In the remote areas visited by Explorer Ventures' liveaboard dive vessels, there are big challenges in finding environmentally friendly options and most do not have recycling options. Consequently, the company has also found that providing information to their several thousand annual guests on how to reduce their own impact on the environment while traveling is a necessary part of the equation.
Over the past 8 months, Explorer Ventures has made extensive changes to the vessels in its fleet, as well as changes within the sales and operation offices. Explorer Ventures became the world's first carbon-neutral diving fleet in March 2007, has purchased new, more efficient generators and engines on two of their Caribbean vessels, has conducted a fuel baseline study on all Caribbean and Australian vessels, began a fuel efficiency program on the Turks & Caicos Explorer II to reduce CO2 emissions, has researched and tested biodegradable products for use on its vessels and already begun using these products on the Caribbean Explorer I, has implemented more comprehensive recycling program in both the sales and operations office, and is now purchasing products, when available, which are made from recycled materials. These efforts along with are just the beginning of their continued initiative.
