Post Hurricane Dean Advisory #1

Evacuation: In the days leading up to Hurricane Dean the Cayman Islands was able to evacuate more than 6,000 visitors and by end of day Sunday, there were only 60 visitors who had to be accommodated in hotels as safe shelter for the storm. Visitors who have decided to continue their journey home today, have been re-accommodated on flights and transported to the airport this morning for their departures. In the 72 hours prior to the storm, Cayman Airways provided 5,000 to 6,000 outbound seats utilizing a combination of their own planes and chartered equipment.

Air Travel: The Owen Roberts International Airport and Gerrard Smith Airport reopened at 7AM this morning and are both fully operational. Both Cayman Airways and Cayman Airways Express are operational as of this morning operating extra sections to facilitate their customers travel needs. Some of the other airlines are also resuming service. The public is invited to contact their airline to confirm specific details.

Visitor Travel: The travel restriction on visitors has been lifted effective today, 21 August. While a significant number of hotels and condos are open, visitors who plan to stay in a hotel, condo or villa are encouraged to contact the property directly to confirm they are open and operating.
