ScubaLab First Look at the OrcaTorch ZD710 Dive Light
ScubaLab takes a first look at the OrcaTorch ZD710 Mk2 dive light . This general-duty dive light is depth-rated to 492 feet (150 meters) and is sized for primary use. It features an adjustable beam angle and four different power levels.
Operating the light is very intuitive. A single push of the button cycles between three standard power levels. Standard power level intensities areup to 880, 420 and 150 lumens. An additional “turbo” mode can be activated by holding down the button for a high-intensity light of 1,500 lumens.
The beam angle can quickly be adjusted anywhere from 4 to 72 degrees by rotating the light head. Simply rotate counterclockwise for a narrower far-reaching spot beam and clockwise for a wider flood light with a larger coverage area.
The light can be attached to an optional wrist-mount or Goodman-style handle for hands-free use. Orange rubber accents on either end of the light allow it to be set down gently and minimizing rolling when laid on a flat surface.
We also liked that this light has an activation lock to prevent it from turning on accidentally. One can enable the lock by holding down the button for five seconds with the light off. To disable the lock, push the button twice in quick succession.
The ZD710 uses a rechargeable, replaceable 21700 battery, which includes a convenient direct USB-C charging port. The light will run for two hours and 10 minutes on high and up to 12 hours on low.
This light’s multiple power levels and adjustable beam angle make it suitable for a variety of different uses. It is capable of penetrating into dark, murky water as well as illuminating a wide area of interest. The versatile design allows users to adjust the light’s output and beam angle on the fly, making it possible to adapt to changing dive conditions in real-time.
