Stahlsac Steel 34 Roller Bag Review
ScubaLab tested the Stahlsac 34 roller bag for its 2019 dive bag review. Flexible, rugged and packed with convenience, it was our Testers Choice for large roller bags.
We tested its comparative usefulness, convenience and durability for dive travel against other bags by packing them with gear divers typically take with them on dive trips that involve air travel. This included a complete set of scuba gear and accessories required to dive with a full wetsuit. We also packed a few personal items and clothes like those we would take on a weeklong liveaboard trip.
We evaluated how easy it was to pack and transport each bag, with special attention paid to any features that were specifically geared toward dive travel. We also measured and weighed each bag and inspected design and construction elements such as materials, stitching, hardware and reinforcements.
The Steel 34 is split into two zippered compartments. One compartment is waterproof and the other is vented, which gives it the flexibility to store wet gear for transport or to allow damp things to dry without wetting stuff in the other section. “Love the ability to customize the spaces and separations,” one tester wrote. The top section is flexible enough that it flattens for easy storage, but it is also the root of our only gripe: it allows the bag to flop over if packed carelessly. The bright blue lining helps you see bag’s contents and the top-notch telescoping handle and wheels and comfortable, well-placed grips make this bag easy to wheel, lift or carry with a full load. The Stahlsac 34 Steel is our Testers Choice.
