Anatomy of a Drysuit: A closer look at Pinnacle Aquatics’ Liberator suit

1. YKK Aquaseal diagonal front-entry zipper

YKK makes incredibly dependable zippers. Look for a protective zipper flap that helps keep out water.

2. Valves

Most modern drysuits use a dual-valve system — an inflate valve on the chest pumps air into the suit, and an exhaust valve, usually on the upper left arm, vents air out. Exhaust valves work manually by pushing a button, or automatically by dialing the valve from a fully open to a fully closed position.

3. Neck and wrist seals

Latex seals come in either cone-shaped or bell-shaped styles. Pinnacle’s bell-shaped seals provide more surfacesealing area. The thicker latex is tougher and less susceptible to tearing.

4. Neoprene socks

Attached socks simplify the donning process and eliminate having to deal with extra gear.
