Awesome Oahu!
Just got back from a trip to Oahu Hawaii and had to write to tell you about our experience.
We dove the West side of the Island and were hammered by big waves that came from the big surf on the North Shore. Didn't see much and didn't like it so we went and dove with Aqua Zone on the South Shore. They did great job in showing us around very friendly and knowledgable about diving.
They only take small groups since we were a group of 4 we had the boat to ourselves and they let us pick the dive sites we went to. We chose the Corsair as our first dive, a world war 2 fighter plane. It is in 107 feet and one of the coolest dives I have ever been on. It was my first airplane wreck. On the dive we saw thousands of garden eels as Capt. Jason called them. Couldn't get any photo of them as they would sink back into the sand as I get closer. Also were huge cloud of fish hanging around the wreck. On our safety stop, we could here humpback whales singing away. Was quite cool!
Second dive we picked the sea cave. A massive hole in the side of a mountain. The hole is as big as a house and has light comming in from the top to "light the house". Inside the cave were white tip reef sharks, frog fish and big sea turtles. Our instructor Dayn was most impressed by the frog fish by the size. It was as big as a football. Heard the whales again but as a bonus, saw them on the way back to the dock. There were three that we saw but by the sound of them, there must have been more.
Next day Capt. Jason took us to a wreck near Diamond Head. We saw turtles the size of cars and alot of fish too. Even the biggest octopus that Daryn has ever seen in Hawaii. Next dive was to a shallow reef where we were treated to an abundance of marine life. We really enjoyed ourselve diving on the South shore of the Island.
Can't say much about the West tho. Maybe it was a bad day. I found Aquazone at www.scubaoahu.com if anyone wants to look them up. One of my dive buddies wives took their free scuba lesson the their pool and then went out on the boat trip afer and had marvelous thins to say about the dive & crew.
