How To Save a Flooded Dive Light
Dive lights are specially designed to keep the water out of their inner workings while you dive, so it's critical to ensure they're properly maintained to prevent flooding. But if something goes wrong and your dive light does get flooded, don't panic just yet. Take these tips from our Gear Editor to see if you can save your light from flooding.
How to Save a Flooded Dive Light
- Open the light as soon as possible after surfacing
- Safely discard the battery
- Rinse the light with fresh water and allow all components to dry thoroughly (follow manufacturer’s instructions)
- Inspect for damage to light body or light head that may have caused leak
- Inspect, clean and lightly lubricate O-rings – replace if any sign of damage
- Be sure O-ring contact area is spotless – any debris (hair, etc.) can cause a leak
- Reassemble light and check operation
