Located in the center of the Asia-Pacific region, Papua New Guinea is said to have twice as many marine species as the waters of the Red Sea and up to ten times as many as the Caribbean. The immense diversity of dive sites includes barrier reefs, coral walls, fringing reefs, sea grass beds and coral atolls. Spectacular wreck diving demonstrates untouched collections of ships and aircrafts from WWII and the diverse marine life they attract. With 10,000 miles of coastline and 1,500 cubic feet of reef systems, visitors can enjoy private dive experiences and minimal contact with other divers. While the reefs teem with life they are extremely fragile so preservation of the marine environment is emphasized with the ethos ‘look but don’t touch’. Visitors quickly experience the importance of the oceans to local communities and are able to contribute to the management of the dive industry and the underwater world with a nominal Environment & Safety Fee that is collected by operators for each dive day.
