Deep Blue Teen on Location - July 29, 2003

From the Valenza Trip Journal Day 16 At one in the morning, Valenza was visited by guests from the other boat, Xenon, bearing water, shaving cream and Gold Bond powder. The crew members on Valenza were not too happy with these presents because for some reason the powder ended up in our hair and the water drenched our sleeping bags. Valenza knew that this attack from Xenon could not be handled lightly, so we stayed up into the late hours planning our revenge. At approximately four in the morning, Valenza quietly hopped into the dinghy and paddled over to Xenon where the kids were fast asleep. Half way to the boat, six of the Valenza crew slid into the water and swam to the bow of Xenon where they waited quietly for the signal. The rest of the crew from Valenza pulled up to the stern without making a noise. We tiptoed towards the bow and began taking our much needed revenge. Powder sugar, syrup, vinegar, water and shaving cream totally covered the boat, as well as the "innocent" crew of Xenon. After the prank was completed, we jumped off the boat eager for part two of the plan to begin. Xenon was having a fit and we could hear them from Valenza complaining of the shaving cream and syrup in their hair… Little did they know that more was to come. After things settled down, the Valenza crew waiting in the water began their attack. They snuck up on the boat and wrote the number 22 everywhere with shaving cream. Also, some stayed in the water to splash those sleeping on the trampoline. Then they quickly swam away taking all of Xenon's PFD's. Revenge was sweet and Valenza felt much better until we realized it was already six in the morning and our wake up call would be coming in a half hour. We quickly climbed into bed and were relieved when we were woken up closer to eight, rather than seven. The counselors decided that a good wake up call would be to get into the water and finish up the last skills for the rescue diver training. We learned how to ascend with a panicked diver as well as an unconscious diver. After the skills were completed, French toast was made by the cooks of the day and we were all treated to an interesting sail lecture out on the bow in the warm Caribbean sun. Once the sails were raised and all the hatches closed, we set sail for St. Kitts. St. Kitts also offered beautiful weather. When we were chilling on the bow waiting for the tanks to be filled, we were briefed about the wreck we were about to dive. In order to become one step closer to our wreck diving specialty, we had to complete a skill underwater with our buddy. The skill was mapping out the wreck, including length, width, direction and unique parts. Once the dive was done, Valenza enjoyed delicious grilled cheese sandwiches. We set sail for Basseterre where we filled up with water and other necessary supplies. During this time everyone had down time to read, listen to music or just hang out. As the sun was going down, the crew hopped into the water for a night dive that went towards our night diving specialty. The skills to be preformed were indirect supervision, meaning the staff was underwater, but the divers were relying on themselves to get to the reef. The other skill was to observe and record nocturnal life seen on the dive. As everyone climbed onto the boat with their gear, we could smell Hawaiian stir-fry in the air. Because of last night's late night, we were exhausted and all fell asleep after a very filling dinner. Sarah
