60:Second ScubaLab: Aqua Lung Zuma BC

Aqua Lung’s Zuma is a featherweight back-buoyancy BC designed for travel. It packs so compactly you can easily fit it into a carry-on bag. The contoured shoulders are nicely padded with open cell foam, and there’s padding in the back and lumbar areas as well — a big bonus when wearing the BC without a wetsuit.

The Zuma’s sternum strap allows you to dial in a snug fit. The buckles ride on a rail system, so you can raise or lower the strap to 14 different adjustment points. And best of all, the Zuma features Aqua Lung’s SureLock II, the Cadillac of integrated weight ditch systems. In the water you’d never guess the Zuma was a soft backpack BC.

Its unique tank security system locks the cylinder in solidly, making the Zuma comfortable and giving it excellent stability at depth.

The low-pro power inflator’s inflate and deflate buttons allow for pinpoint buoyancy control. The BC comes with a very useable fold-down cargo pocket and four plastic D-rings for clipping extra gear. The bottom Line: Earning a Testers Choice in this year’s New BC review, the Zuma is ScubaLab’s favorite Travel BC for 2010. Click here for more information.
