2011 ScubaLab BC Tests: Cressi Start Pro

Cressi Start Pro

Carrie Garcia

Cressi Start Pro
SPECS
» Style Jacket
» Weight System Mechanical: Gravity Release Pouches
» Dry Weight 6.6 pounds
www.cressi.com

TEST STATS Real-World Performance: 3 (GOOD)

PERFORMANCE
The Start Pro is an inexpensive weight-integrated BC described by Cressi as ideal for dive charters and schools. The most obvious bow to rental-locker requirements is the easily visible size marking on the right shoulder strap, but the use of fold-up gravity drop-weight pockets — instead of easily lost pouches — will appeal to dive centers and charter boats. Some testers didn’t like the weight pockets, and it was noted that large, hard weights could become jammed in the pocket and not release. The Start Pro had good to very good scores in a number of test categories, including ascent control and attitude and stability. Priced extremely well for an entry-level BC, the Start Pro is our Best Buy in the $400 and Under category.

BEST FOR General recreational diving, entry-level diving, rental-locker use
