Slick. That's the one word I think best describes Cressi-sub's latest iteration of the Rondine.
It's definitely slick in a design sense, with a blade that flows seamlessly into the top of the fin pocket, and low-profile buckles that follow the lines of the side rails.
Beyond that, slick is the word I'd use to describe the way it seems to slip through the water. If there were such a thing as a water tunnel, I'd bet the Rondine's blade would leave clean contrails along its tip and sides as it pushed through the surrounding liquid.
Diving with this fin isn't about ultimate power or some magic, energy-extending design formula. It's about being able to perform a wide variety of kicks with precision and efficiency, and about an extremely comfortable foot pocket that provides efficient energy transfer.
I used it in a flowing freshwater river and was able to move against the current with reasonable ease. The blade has a reasonable degree of flex in the tip, plus enough backbone in the midsection to perform in nearly all diving conditions this side of doubles and dry suits. I discovered the Rondine's best features, however, when I was hovering above a fallen log to spy on a bass and using subtle sculling and frog kicks to hold position in a drift. The combined effects of low drag and a high degree of control made me feel that I was indeed one slick diver
