Stuart Cove's Personal Subs

Here's a dilemma every diver faces: you want to share the joy of diving with someone, but they don't know how to dive. Or snorkel. Or swim. OK, so putting your head underwater and breathing through your mouth is not for everyone. The solution may be Stuart Cove's Personal Subs, a unique way to go sightseeing in the warm, clear waters of The Bahamas. Come on, you say. My grandmother's uncomfortable trying on a face mask in the store, and you think she'll drive a sub? If you can drive a golf cart, you can handle one of Stuart Cove's Personal Subs. While the sub is floating on the surface, you just dip your head into the bowl and sit on the seat. You don't even have to worry about your depth: a tether hooked to a float on the surface keeps the sub at ten feet for the whole excursion. When half a dozen intrepid submariners are ready, scuba diving divemasters will accompany you on a tour of Schoolhouse Reef off New Providence Island. Schoolhouse Reef is an ideal location for a tour. Since it is on the leeward side of the island, the water is nearly always calm. The reef is shallow, but it is surrounded by sand, so you can drive around it without running into the coral. The reef is easy to see as the electric motor takes you humming by effortlessly: golden branches of Elkhorn Coral, green mounds of Star Coral, waving Sea Fans and luxurious soft corals. And of course, the fish. You'll see hundreds of them, including a colorful variety of snapper, grunts, wrasse, butterflyfish and angelfish. In fact, a lot of them will come over to check you out. At the end of the ride, the divemasters bring your sub to the surface so you can exit easily. Next thing you know, grandmother will be asking to borrow your regulator.
